Auf dem Gelände des südlichen Überseequartiers entsteht derzeit ein neues, modernes Terminal, das ab 2025 das ehemalige Cruise Center HafenCity ersetzen wird. Das neue Kreuzfahrtterminal wird Teil eines Gebäudeensembles mit unterirdischem Busbahnhof, Pkw-Parkplätzen und Taxizufahrt sowie Hotel- und Einzelhandelsflächen. Es wird über zwei Liegeplätze (345 und 230 Meter Länge) für bis zu 1.800 Passagiere verfügen – mitten im Herzen Hamburgs und in unmittelbarer Nähe zur historischen Speicherstadt, die seit 2015 zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe gehört. Im Zuge des Ausbaus der Landstrominfrastruktur im Hamburger Hafen wird das Terminal Kreuzfahrtschiffen die Möglichkeit bieten, während der Liegezeit Landstrom zu beziehen.
Bis zur Fertigstellung des Cruise Center HafenCity und darüber hinaus für insgesamt zehn Jahre dient das Cruise Center Baakenhöft als temporäre Ausweichmöglichkeit und als zusätzlicher Liegeplatz in der HafenCity.

The new HafenCity Terminal is currently being built in Hamburg Überseequartier and will comprise of two berths (345 metres & 230 metres long, max. draught of 10.3 metres) for up to 1,800 passengers. The new cruise terminal will be part of a building ensemble with an underground bus station, car parking and taxi access as well as hotel and retail space. Cruise ships calling at the new terminal will berth directly in the heart of the city near the Elbphilharmonie and right next to historic Speicherstadt, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015. The new facility is set to open in 2025 and will be equipped to deliver shore power to calling vessels at berth.
Until the completion of the new Cruise Center HafenCity and beyond for a total of ten years, the Cruise Center Baakenhöft will serve as a temporary fallback option and additional berth in HafenCity.
